Rachel Dent

Rachel Dent began her career in 1992 as a teacher of English in Alexandria, Egypt. She then became a teacher of English at Wisbech Grammar School, before joining Cokethorpe School, Oxfordshire in 1995 where her career quickly progressed to Head of Department of English and Drama, and ultimately Head of Sixth Form. Rachel joined The Abbey School in 2006 as Director of Sixth Form, becoming First Deputy Head in 2010 and Head in 2014.
Rachel is a member of the GSA Education Committee and GSA Universities Committee. She also serves as a Governor at St School, Pangbourne.
A strong proponent of the importance of achieving balance in life, Rachel is assisted in this by her naughty dog Bruno, and far better-behaved husband and daughter.

Crossing borders: refugee children inspire pupils; tomorrow’s leaders.

Educators have a responsibility to promote social and community awareness and engagement among pupils locally and internationally. Year 10-13 students at The Abbey School in Reading have been working with Reading Refugee Support Group running a homework club that benefits both pupils and refugees, bringing together diverse communities.
