Hywel Jones graduated from the LSE with a BSc in International Relations. He then went to Cambridge University where he did an MPhil in International Relations, and went on to get a PGCE in History. He worked as a History teacher at the City of Ely Community College and then moved to St Mary’s Catholic School in Bishop’s Stortford where he became an Assistant Head with responsibility for the 11-18 curriculum. He is Headteacher of the West London Free School in Hammersmith, one of the most oversubscribed secondary schools in England. He passionately believes education should provide pupils of all abilities with an insight into our human heritage, and should not be overly concerned with the surface level of vocational and technological change.
